Hot Weather and Insecurity Burglaries

Hot weather often leads people to leave windows and doors open, which can lead to insecurity burglaries.

Where possible

Close and lock windows when leaving a room or the property, even for a short period of time.

Use window restrictors to allow ventilation while limiting how far a window can open.

Remove or secure items that could aid access to property, such as garden furniture, bins and ladders positioned near windows.

Remove valuables away from open windows whereby they can be easily reached (e.g. laptops on a desk in front of a ground floor window)

Avoid leaving front, rear or patio doors open and unattended, even when you're in the garden or elsewhere in the house.

Before going to bed, carry out a quick security check of all doors and windows.
